Bring your own device (BYOD)

The school recognises the need to prepare our students for the rapidly-changing world, where technology plays a large role in our personal, social and professional lives.  Our bring your own device or BYOD program will help aid students need for understanding and working with technology by encouraging students to bring their own laptop to school for the purpose of learning.

Why BYOD

BYOD supports our schools teaching methods and future focused learning by embedding technology into both teaching and learning practice. Students are better able to interact and engage with programs, whilst teachers are better equipped to engage with students through the use of specially designed programs to optimise the learning experience.

BYOD builds on fundamental and necessary skills, such as creative and critical thinking, collaboration and communication. BYOD helps close the achievement gap and provides necessary skills for career preparation.

BYOD also increases teaching time by allowing for greater participation in interactive educational games, access to resources, supports collaborative projects through online communication and sharable data and enables ‘real time’ formative assessment in class via online platforms and much more resulting in engaging lessons and study.

Which BYOD device does Colo support?

Students are able to use any device provided it meets the requirements set out by the school.

To assist families in purchasing devices, Colo has teamed up with HP and LWT to offer a range of suitable devices and peripherals at a heavily discounted price. All devices offered at Colo's HP and Learning with Technologies Store meet the requirements of our BYOD policy and provide additional benefits such as:

  • Extended Warranty Repairs and Accidental Damage Cover (Dependent on plans).
  • Warranty, accidental damage or repairs can be logged and processed by the school. Most repairs are conducted by our vendors at school, removing the difficulty of families seeking support from the manufacturer directly. Any claims made are typically assessed and/or repaired within 1-3 business days.
  • Each device offered meets the requirements of the program eliminating confusion.
