Aboriginal student support
At Colo High School, we are dedicated to closing the achievement gap for Aboriginal students by respecting and celebrating their cultural identity. We warmly welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and community members to join us in building strong partnerships to support student success.
Our Programs Include:
- Personalised Learning Plans (PLP): Tailored plans created with students, families, and teachers to support individual learning goals and celebrate achievements.
- Kirinari Roll Call: A daily gathering supported by the Hawkesbury Aboriginal Educational Consultative Group. It offers extra literacy and numeracy support, cultural learning, and helps build confidence and leadership skills.
- Mentoring Support: Our Aboriginal School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) assists students in class and leads cultural workshops to boost learning and engagement.
- Allowah Day: An annual event at Cattai National Park where Aboriginal students from our school and the region come together to celebrate culture, play traditional games, explore nature, and connect with local elders. This event is proudly run by Merana, an Aboriginal Community Association for the Hawkesbury Inc, fostering community connection and cultural learning.
We are committed to nurturing a positive and inclusive environment where Aboriginal students can thrive as lifelong learners.
