Year 9 camp cancellation

Effective immediately the Department of Education has advised our school today they have withdrawn approval for school camps or visits to go ahead at Mangrove Mountain due to some health and safety concerns which have been raised with the Department.

As a result the camp due to commence tomorrow has been cancelled.

The Department will make arrangements for out of pocket costs for families to be reimbursed.  We will advise families what alternative activities will be arranged by our school in due course.

The safety and wellbeing of our students is paramount. We acknowledge and regret the inconvenience caused by this decision.

There will be a notice on our website and our social media platforms.

Classes will be as normal at school tomorrow.

Why was the camp cancelled?

The Department has become aware of some health and safety issues, so camps to Mangrove Mountain have been ceased until further notice.

Will my child get a chance to go to camp later this year?

The school is investigating whether it is possible to reschedule the camp to a later time or to another venue. I will keep parents posted.

Will I get a refund?

All families will get a full refund. 

When will I get my refund?

The school will work on that as a priority. I will keep parents informed about the progress.

What kind of issues at the camp have led to this?

The Department has become aware of some health and safety issues associated with the camp. I do not know the details but the department is working to assess the issues.

Do you think it is fair that my child has missed out on this experience?

No, it is not fair but it is important that we keep our children safe. The school will investigate other options for an experience to enhance your child’s education in the near future.

I cancelled after-school care because my child was going on a camp. What am I supposed to do?

I will liaise with the after-school provider and make them aware of the situation. The school will assist you to address this issue.
