Visual arts

Course description: visual arts involves students in the practices of artmaking, art criticism and art history. Students develop their own artworks, culminating in a body of work in the HSC course. Students gain knowledge and understanding different art practices in order to demonstrate their ability to resolve their ideas. Students critically and historically investigate artworks, critics, historians and artists from Australia as well as those from other cultures, traditions and times.

Digital photo media

This course allows for students to learn practical skills balanced with theory, ethics and creativity in the latest techniques in digital photo media and emergent technologies. You'll study project-based studio subjects with a professional practice focus, giving you the capacity to meet real industry expectations.

The digital Photo media course enables students to gain practical, hands-on experience with industry standard software and develop both a solid historical and theoretical background in the field. Students will produce digital works in the areas of still, interactive and moving forms of pratice. Students will be provided with a foundation for using the adobe imaging software package on their DER laptops. digital photo media develops a stronger skills base and complements other subjects in the visual arts area.

Photographic and digital media

Photography is a versatile course consisting of three strands – Wet photography, digital and film making. This course is portfolio based, where students will develop a professional photographic portfolio in areas of black and white traditional darkroom photography, digital photography and film making. This course allows for students to develop skills in analysis: photographic language and writing about photography, along with exploring and developing a body of work based on a particular theme each unit. Photography and digital media develop a stronger skills base and compliments subjects such as visual arts and visual design as elective choices.

Visual design

This course allows for students to learn practical skills balanced with theory, ethics and creativity on the latest techniques in design and technologies. You'll study project based studio subjects with a professional practice focus and industry based expectations.

Explore advertising, graphics, packaging and digital graphic design topics. This will cover advertising campaigns, package development, and layout and product design. Students will be provided a foundation for using the adobe imaging software package.

Photography, video and digital imaging

Photography and its products are integral to modern life, it constitutes a form of visual literacy. Students explore this medium through conventional systems of recording and manufacturing chemical processes, as well as digital registration, computer manipulation and image production. Though scientifically and technically based, there is a strong emphasis on aesthetic goals and critical evaluation within the context of contemporary art teaching methods. Students are set tasks and prepare portfolios of work that can be retained for personal enjoyment or related career applications.

Ceramics

Ceramics is a 100 Z elective. Students will explore a range of ceramic forms and be assessed on their body of work.
