Industrial arts

Technology (Mandatory) (Years 7/8)

The Technology (Mandatory) course enables students to develop a way of thinking and doing to create quality solutions to everyday problems, opportunities and needs. Students work through a design process to develop and realise ideas, manage resources and processes, and evaluate technology and design including social and environmental consequences.

In the Technology (Mandatory) Years 7-8 syllabus students undertake 4-8 design projects during the course. Design-related content is the basis of a student's progression of learning through the course and is addressed in each design project. To ensure a breadth of technological experience students use at least six different technologies across the industrial arts, home economics and agriculture faculties during the course to develop design projects.

Agricultural Technology (Years 9/10)

This course teaches students to think critically and be resourceful.Students study a range of agricultural industries through a variety of experiences. They will gain a strong awareness of the environmental consequences that may arise.

Graphics Technology (Years 9/10)

Graphics technology incorporates all components of technical drawing.  It is a skill that has many life applications.  It is an essential part of any design, trade or engineering course.  The course examines principles and techniques associated with producing graphical presentations in a variety of styles and formats. A large focus is learnt form the integration of ICT in this course, including numerous applications for both CAD (computer aided drawing) and CAM (computer aided manufacturing).

Industrial Technology - Building and Construction / Metal / Timber (Years 9/10)

Industrial Technology develops student's knowledge and understanding of materials and processes in a range of technologies. They develop knowledge and skills relating to the selection, use and application of materials, tools, machines and processes through the planning and production of quality practical projects.

Agriculture (Years 11/12)

The Agriculture stage 6 syllabus is designed to develop student's knowledge and understanding about the production and marketing of both animal and plant products. Students should also develop the associated skills and responsible attitudes that are necessary to manage and market these products in a sustainable manner.

Industrial Technology (Years 11/12)

Industrial Technology is an elective 200-hour course that develops students' knowledge and understanding of materials and processes in a range of technologies. They develop knowledge and skills relating to the selection, use and application of materials, tools, machines and processes through the planning and production of quality practical projects. The industrial technology course at Colo High School is studied through the focus of timber and furniture.

Design and Technology (Years 11/12)

Design and Technology applies the knowledge and understanding of designing and producing. It involves the development and realisation of a major design project, a case study of an innovation, along with the study of innovation and emerging technologies. The study of the course content is integrated with the development of a major design project, worth 60% of the HSC mark. This project requires students to select and apply appropriate design, production and evaluation skills to a product, system or environment that satisfies an identified need or opportunity.

Construction - VET (Years 11/12)

The construction curriculum framework is designed to enable students to acquire a range of technical, practical, personal and organisational skills valued both within and beyond the workplace. They will also acquire underpinning knowledge and skills related to work, employment and further training within the construction industry. Through the study of this subject, students will gain experiences that can be applied to a range of contexts, including work, study and leisure and that will assist them to make informed career choices.

Metals and Engineering - VET (Years 11/12)

The metal and engineering curriculum framework is designed to enable students to acquire a range of technical, practical, personal and organisational skills valued both within and beyond the workplace. They will also acquire underpinning knowledge and skills related to work, employment and further training within the manufacturing, engineering and related services industries. Through the study of this subject, students will gain experiences that can be applied to a range of contexts, including work, study and leisure and that will assist them to make informed career choices.

Primary Industries - VET (Years 11/12)

The primary industries curriculum framework is designed to enable students to acquire a range of technical, practical, personal and organisational skills valued both within and beyond the workplace. They will also acquire underpinning skills and knowledge related to work, employment and further training within the primary industries sector. Through study of this subject, students will gain experiences that can be applied to a range of contexts, including work, study and leisure and which can assist them in making informed career choices.

Entertainment - VET (Years 11/12)

The entertainment industry curriculum framework is designed to enable students to acquire a range of technical, practical, personal and organisational skills valued both within and beyond the workplace. They will also acquire underpinning knowledge and skills related to work, employment and further training within the entertainment industry. Through the study of this subject, students will gain experiences that can be applied to a range of contexts, including work, study and leisure and that will assist them to make informed career choices.
