Nepean Hospital recently gave Colo High Year 10 students, Brooke Russell and Lucinda Muscat, the opportunity to experience how a real hospital environment works through the annual Health Inspirations Program.
This year over three hundred students applied but only 20 students are chosen for each 2-day intensive program. Positions in the program are selective based on their submissions about the Health careers they hope to follow. Well done girls!
The Health Inspirations Program team at Nepean Hospital delivers an interactive and engaging set of experiences that encourages students to learn and reflect on their interests, skills and personal attributes, and how these may complement their career choices in the Health sector.
Students gain an understanding of the different categories of activities and people involved across the healthcare sector and the running of a major hospital, including medicine/nursing, allied health, diagnostics, corporate support, planning, and research to name a few.
The program also gives students access to a range of health professionals with whom they can discuss aspects of careers. They also acquire hands-on experience visiting key diagnostic areas of the hospital where they see and hear about specialised medical equipment and using nursing training facilities.
Year 10 students have the opportunity to apply for a position again around March so ensure that you listen for when 2023 applications open.
