Harmony Week 2023

Harmony Week 2023

Harmony Week 2023

This week at Colo we are celebrating Harmony Week!

Harmony Week is about celebrating our unique cultural diversity and about "inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians from the Traditional Owners of our land to our most recent arrivals". Throughout the week, we will be discussing this with students and have them take part in mini lessons where they will discuss examples of Cultural Diversity across the many aspects of Australian life i.e food, sports, movies, race, ethnicity, gender, festivals and more. Students will be encouraged to reflect on what this tells us about our country and the benefits of living in a country as diverse as Australia. We will ask students ‘Why would it be important for diversity to be supported within a school like Colo?' and get their ideas on how we can achieve this.

We will also be discussing the topic ‘Protecting our Cultural Diversity’ and looking at what racist behaviour looks like, reviewing scenarios and reflecting on the possible impact such behaviour has on students who experience racism at school. They will be guided through and encouraged to contribute to discussions on how students and teachers work to ensure that students of diverse backgrounds feel supported and included at school.

We encourage families to continue this discussion at home and help work with us to ensure Colo is a safe place where everyone belongs.
